Our Story
Trading Card Game (TCG) Collectors is a Melbourne based online card store in Australia.
Our story goes back to the 1990s when we first saw the Pokemon anime aired on TV. The popularity quickly spread across school grounds and soon every kid had a deck of Pokemon cards. Although not many knew how to play the official game, but most of us knew enough that a higher attack number must mean the card is stronger.
Like all kids, we all wanted holo cards and the only holo card that seemed the best is the one that looked badass, blows fire and looks like a dragon (lizard) – Charizard. Unfortunately we never got our Charizard, but we loved Pikachu and other Pokemons just as much 🙂
Soon after, Yu-Gi-Oh! started airing on TV so kids moved onto collecting Yu-Gi-Oh cards. We were lucky enough to get our hands on a box of the Japanese starter box that came with the Blue Eyes White Dragon. We loved Yu-Gi-Oh, but it was a little dark and it wasn’t as popular amongst kids (probably due to the artwork).
Eventually we had to let go of our childhood and did what everyone else did. We study hard, got a job and had a life.
One day in 2013, we happened to stumble upon a local card store in Melbourne CBD. It was probably due to the friendliness of the staffs or the warm welcoming from fellow players, we started playing Yu-Gi-Oh again and luckily won top 16 in a local tournament with our Elemental Heroes deck.
Every card gamer should be looked after by a predecessor
We became nostalgic about Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! Maybe it was the feeling of missing out on getting a Charizard or its the failed love we had for Yu-Gi-Oh! but the experience brought us back into the game and we started playing casually while buying/selling on the side.
We want to bring collectors and players together, so we started a Facebook group to encourage participation in Digimon
In 2013, we started trading under a different name and got into community, selling general merchandise from Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Dragon Ball Super. The business performed well and was sold in 2017. When the business was sold, we stepped out of the community and shed ourselves from news and connections. We didn’t want to have anything to do with the game anymore.
However, during COVID-19 impacts in 2020, we were forced into lockdown for 180 days. During this time, we reexamined our love for the game and felt a sense of pity that there is still so much we can offer to the players and the community. So we decided it was time to come back into the game again. Luckily our decision was widely embraced by the community and our suppliers so we were up and running within 2 weeks of making the decision.
We made this website so we can share our love of cards with individuals who shared the same attachment. We’re here to help players complete their deck and collectors to perfect their collection. Aside from this, we want to bring collectors and players together, which is why we started a Facebook group to encourage participation for Digimon. Moreover, we decided to offer PSA submission as a service because a lot of collectors have asked us for help with the process. We wanted to make it easy for everyone, which is why we’ve simplified the process for customers by taking the paperwork, shipping and preparation in our hands.
